To your so called recruiter, the answer to your question is identity theft. Evoke Technologies may very well be a real employment agency, but be weary of companies that contact you in this manner. I was contacted by this agency, but as soon as I saw that they were out of my state, I instantly became suspicious. Then I performed a simple internet search, and a plethora of negative reviews popped up. It can't be said enough, never give your SSN to anybody online, especially "employment agencies" that you're not familiar with. They already have a great deal of personal information about you from your resume (work history, name, address and phone number) so all they need is your SSN to successfully steal your identity. If they were to ask you to fill out an online application that includes date of birth and SSN, then they might very well be phishing to steel your identity.
